A shrine that stands in rough and angry waves

Udo Jingu (Udo Shrine)

Where a legendary story was originated, the red honden (main building) of Udo Jingu is built in a cave facing Hyuga nada (sea of Hyuga). If you can through the lucky ball in a square hole in the rock called Kame ishi (turtle rock) (men using left hands and women using right hands) as you make a wish, it is believed that your wish will come true.

Come experience the underwater adventure in Nichinan

Underwater sightseeing boat – Marine Viewer Nango

The sightseeing boat leaves from Sotoura fishing port and tours around Nichinan Kaiyo Koen (marine park) for about 45 min. On the boat, the under half of the boat being under water, your can observe beautiful coals and colorful tropical fish in the clear sea water.

Toi Misaki

Locating at the south end of Hyuga nada (Sea of Hyuga), Toi Misaki is know for the wild horses that live there. Misaki Uma (Misaki horses) and their habitat was designated as nation’s natural monuments. You can also visit Toi Tourist Center where introduces Misaki Uma and the nature of Toi Misaki, and the Toi Misaki Light House of the Pacific Ocean that stands here.

Kirishima Factory Garden

This is a facility which is directly operated by Kirishima Shuzou. Inside, there includes “Kirinokura Brewery” where beer brewery and restaurant are unified, “Kirinokura Bakery” where the very famous distilled spirit breads are sold, etc. You can also visit the actual sweet potato shochu (distilled spirit) factory and observe the making process of shochu (reservation required).

Let’s get to know the Kurozu (black vinegar) produced in the great nature of Fukuyama, Kirishima

Sakamoto Jozo (vinegar brewery)

Black vinegar is produced by only using three ingredients, steamed rice, malted rice and ground water. Such traditional production method has been handed down, generation after generation, for 200 years until today. Visitors can first visit the Tsubo batake and information center to get to know the production method and history of Sakamoto Kurozu (black vinegar). Thereafter, enjoy the taste of Kurozu lunch at the restaurant.

Kirishima Jingu (Kirishima Shrine)

On the street that leads to Kirishima Jingu, there is a small museum where exhibits various kinds of masks. Here, about 1,800 kinds of masks including masks of Tengu (long nose goblins) of Japan and from all over the world, Nho masks, monster masks are displayed.
